Where to Stay in Lanzarote

Lanzarote offers a good mix of lively coastal resorts and quieter inland locations.

Playa Blanca, on the south coast, is known for its seafront promenade, restaurants, Marina Rubicón and easy access to the Papagayo beaches. It is a convenient base for visitors who want beaches and amenities close by.

Puerto del Carmen has a livelier atmosphere, with a long coastline, plenty of restaurants and shops, and beaches including Playa Grande and Playa Chica.

Puerto Calero is centred around an attractive marina and has a quieter feel, with waterfront restaurants and easy access to nearby Puerto del Carmen.

For a more peaceful setting, Tías and La Asomada offer a more traditional atmosphere away from the main resorts while remaining within easy reach of the coast.

Beaches in Lanzarote

Lanzarote’s coastline includes sandy beaches, small sheltered bays and more dramatic volcanic stretches.

The Papagayo beaches in the south are among the island’s best known, with golden sand and clear water surrounded by the protected landscape of Los Ajaches.

In Playa Blanca, Playa Dorada and Playa Flamingo are convenient choices close to the resort. Puerto del Carmen has several beaches, including the long Playa Grande and smaller Playa Chica.

Things to Do in Lanzarote

Boat trips, diving, cycling and walking provide further ways to explore the island beyond its main resorts.

Food and Drink

Traditional Canarian food is simple and full of local flavour. Papas arrugadas, small potatoes served with mojo sauce, are one of the best-known dishes, alongside fresh fish, grilled meats and local cheeses.

Lanzarote is also known for its wine production. The vineyards of La Geria are particularly unusual because the vines are protected from the wind by low stone walls and grown in volcanic soil.

The main resorts have a wide range of international restaurants, while smaller towns and villages are good places to try more traditional Canarian dishes.

Getting Around Lanzarote

Hiring a car is one of the easiest ways to explore the island, particularly if you want to visit Timanfaya, La Geria, quieter beaches and inland villages.

Lanzarote is relatively compact, so many attractions can be reached without long drives. Visitors staying centrally in Playa Blanca or Puerto del Carmen may be able to walk to beaches, shops and restaurants, while taxis and local buses connect many of the main towns and resorts.
